Like a Dream – Rut Bryk’s Printed Fabrics

Like a Dream – Rut Bryk’s Printed Fabrics is a short documentary about the reproduction of Rut Bryk’s disappeared piece of printed fabric, created in collaboration with an Aalto University student Ella Fabritius. Primarily known for her ceramics works, the documentary highlights Rut Bryk’s artistic versatility as a fabric designer.

“In the 1940s Bryk used to print the fabrics at her home. She did this by spreading a clean piece of fabric on the floor and setting slabs imbued with dye on top of it into a desired arrangement. After this, the artist would dance on top of the slabs, as the weight of her body would help the dye sink into the fabric.”

Watch the documentary! ↓ The reproduction of the fabric is on display at EMMA’s Draped – Art of Printed Fabrics exhibition from 12 February 2025 to 14 March 2027.
