Installing Oiva Toikka’s Glass Forest

Glass Forest (2003) is one of the largest works in Kyösti Kakkonen’s collection and currently on view at the Collection Kakkonen exhibition. It was made for an exhibition of glass art by Oiva Toikka at the Finnish Embassy in Washington. The original, Forest, was commissioned by Tapio Wirkkala for The Finnish Glass – Suomalaista lasia exhibition in 1972. Today the original is found in the collection of the Finnish Glass Museum. Although it is fragile and difficult to assemble, Glass Forest has appeared in many exhibitions both in Finland and abroad.

EMMA’s conservators installed the artwork to Collection Kakkonen’s exhibition space for seven days. Take a peek behind the scenes of EMMA and see how Glass Forest was built! ↓
